My father often says” matters of the heart are extremely complicated” therefore, the best way to avoid heart problems in the future is by adopting healthy habits today. Well, there are certain risk factors you can’t alter, such as your genetic setup and your age. But, making healthier choices regarding food habits, exercise and lifestyle will surely help you protect your heart. To be very honest, our hearts are the wildest of creatures. Perhaps that is why our ribs are cages. Anyways, here are a few healthy tips:

Facing Fats: Replacing unhealthy fats in your diet i.e. saturated and Trans fats, with good fats can help you reduce your blood cholesterol and lower your risk of coronary artery ailments. Just remember moderation as all forms of fats are high in calories.

Go High on Fibre: A diet which happens to high in soluble fibre, the kind found in fruits, vegetables and whole rains can help lower your cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart diseases and helps to increase your immunity as well. A diet rich in fibre also improves your digestive health.

Reduce the Consumption of Salt: Excess sodium accumulates in your blood and retains water, which in turn increases the volume of your blood and makes your heart work harder. This can contribute to high blood pressure, a risk factor for cardio-vascular diseases.

Cut the Cocktails: Drinking too much alcohol can also lead to high blood pressure, heart failure and stroke. Well, if you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Exercise can also help you improve your mood, boost your energy level and enhance the quality of your sleep as well.

Refrain Yourself From Tobacco: Smoking increases blood pressure and destroys lungs. It not only damages your lungs but also reduces your ability to undertake physical exercises. Quitting smoking can reduce the risk of recurring heart attacks and possible death from heart diseases by up to 50 percent. Smoking kills. And if you are killed, you tend to lose a very important part of your life. The true face of smoking is death, disease and horror, not the glamour and sophistication the pushers in the tobacco industry try to portray.
